Commissioner commends Rotary for empowering 74 people in Lagos council

Lagos State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tunji Bello, has commended the President, Rotary Club of Gbagada, Alozie Nsirimobi, for the lofty idea of empowering 74 youths and adults in his three-day training, tagged: ‘Waste To Wealth.’

At the programme, which held at Ojodu Council Hall, Bello, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Office of Environmental Services, Ministry of Environment, Dr. Tajudeen Omobolaji, said the programme was in tandem with government’s effort to get rid of wastes in every area where they constitute nuisance.

Oguntola, who spoke on behalf of Omobolaji, said government has created recycling collection centres where all those that bring wastes are paid. He appreciated Ojodu Council for keying into the project.

Nsirimobi said the idea was borne out the need to assist people get out of poverty, which necessitated Rotary Club of Gbagada to come up with the programme in partnership with Kaltani Company, one of Nigeria’s largest Cleantech plastic recycling and waste management companies.

“We succeeded in removing them from the notion that government must employ us.

“Now, the training has afforded them the opportunity to come up with items they can sell to make money.
“The initial idea was to train 60, but the number rose to 74, and the club approved the increase with gladness.”
