
Nigerians woke up to the news of the death of the media aide of former president Olusegun Obasanjo, Doyin Okupe.
Okupe was 72 at the time of his alleged death.
Several newspapers have reported the news of his death.
The Guardian has, however, not been able to verify the news of his demise at press time.
Born in Iperu, Ogun state, on March 22, 1952, Okupe is recognized as an important figure in Nigeria’s politics who served in two administrations.

First, he was Obasanjo’s special assistant on media and publicity and was later appointed as senior special assistant on public affairs to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan.
His political sojourn began way before then.
Okupe was a staunch member of the Labour Party before resigning his membership in 2024.
He had served as the party’s presidential campaign’s director-general during the 2023 presidential election.
