Court adjourns Lagos scholarship board ex-boss’ trial till Oct 8
Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo of the Special Offences Court sitting in Ikeja, Lagos, has adjourned further hearing in the trial of former Executive Secretary, Lagos State Scholarship Board, Stephen Oshinowo, till October 8, 2021.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had arraigned Oshinowo on an amended eight-count charge bordering on criminal conversion of N127 million. He pleaded “not guilty” to the charges.
However, when the prosecuting counsel, Abbas Muhammed, sought to tender the defendant’s confessional statements, the defence counsel, Lawal Pedro, raised objections, arguing that it was obtained under physical and emotional torture.
The judge, who over-ruled the objection and admitted the statements of the defendant, adjourned till October 8, 2021 for continuation of trial.
