The National Industrial Court of Nigeria in Abuja has issued an injunction at the request of Minister Nyesom Wike, requiring workers under the Joint Union Action Committee to suspend their ongoing strike.
The court case, filed under suit number NICN/ABJ/17/2026, was brought against the Committee’s Chairman, Rifkatu Iortyer, and Secretary, Abdullahi Umar Saleh.
Justice E.D. Subilim ruled that while the dispute met legal criteria, the right to strike is not absolute. Once a dispute is referred to the court, any ongoing strike must cease until the case is resolved.
“An order of interlocutory injunction is hereby granted, restraining the claimants and representatives… from further embarking on any industrial action against the claimant. The order shall remain in force, pending the determination of this suit,” Justice Subilim said.
The court adjourned the matter until March 23, 2026, for the hearing of the substantive suit.
