The Ondo State Government has stated that the commitment of the president of the Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, to develop the Olokola Free Trade Zone (OKFTZ) will in no small measure reshape the state’s economic landscape.

While describing the development as historic for the state, the commissioner for information and orientation in the state, Idowu Ajanaku, maintained that the Dangote Group’s plan would provide the infrastructure necessary to attract both local and foreign investors.

The proposed industrial zone is expected to become Nigeria’s largest free trade area and positioned to deliver infrastructure, including independent power generation, water supply systems, gas facilities, and comprehensive logistics services.

According to the Ajanaku, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa is poised to diversify the state’s economy beyond its current civil service-dominated structure.

“This landmark investment will transform Ondo State into a major industrial and business hub in the South-West region,” he stated.

He maintained that the project’s scope extends beyond manufacturing, with the potential to stimulate businesses, increase internally generated revenue, and create thousands of direct and indirect employment opportunities for residents.

“The strategic location of the OKFTZ along the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway corridor, combined with integrated gas infrastructure, would further strengthen Ondo State’s position as an emerging industrial destination.”

Meanwhile, a stakeholder within the All Progressives Congress (APC), Valentine Olaleye, commended Aiyedatiwa for the leadership and economic foresight over the development.

While stressing that the move was an indication that the state is reclaiming its rightful place as a major center of industrial potential in the country, noted that the renewed interest of the Dangote Group represents more than just investment interest.

“This development is not just another business announcement. It is a clear vote of confidence in Ondo State, its people, its resources, and the future being deliberately shaped under the present administration.

“Aiyedatiwa deserves commendation for understanding that the progress of a state is measured not only by words but by the quality of opportunities created for the people.

“By strengthening the confidence of investors and promoting a climate where serious businesses can thrive, his administration is laying a foundation for sustainable development, wider employment, and long-term prosperity.”

“The proposed industrial and free trade zone has the capacity to become a major economic engine for Ondo State, opening doors for manufacturing, logistics, construction, energy, trade, agriculture, transportation, and hospitality, thereby creating direct and indirect jobs, expanding opportunities for young people, and improving revenue prospects.
