Debe Odumegwu Ojukwu’s burial rites begin in Lagos

The funeral rites of the late Chief Sylvester Debe Odumegwu Ojukwu (Akpunwa Nnewi), first son of the late Biafran leader, Chief Dim Odumegwu Ojukwu, the Eze Gburugburu of Igboland, began yesterday with a Service of Songs at the Catholic Church of Assumption, Falomo, Ikoyi, Lagos.

The deceased, who died on November 1, 2018, aged 62, in his lifetime was an ex-policeman and a Lagos-based legal practitioner and businessman, who graduated from the Faculty of Law of University of Nigeria, Enugu campus in 1985.

According to the burial arrangement released by the family, there will be a Requiem Service also at the same venue today, March 5, by 10:00a.m. while on March 14, a Vigil Mass will hold by 5:00p.m. at his Debe Odumegwu Ojukwu ancestral home in Obi Uno village, Umudim, Nnewi, followed by a funeral mass at Saint John Catholic Church of Akammili, Nnewi North Local Government Area of Anambra State on March 15, with interment at his residence in Eze Ubom village, Umudim same day. It will be concluded with a thanksgiving service on Sunday at Saint John Catholic Church of Akammili.

The late Debe is survived by a wife, Vicky Debe Odumegwu Ojukwu, also a Lagos-based lawyer, and children: Grace, Chukwudubem, Sarah and Ifeanyichim.
