The Taraba State Police Command has confirmed that the remains of the kidnapped two wives and five children of the traditional ruler of Mutum-Biyu, Justice Sani Muhammed (rtd), in Gassol Local Council have been recovered.

Gunmen recently stormed the monarch’s residence in Jalingo, and kidnapped his wives and children.

Since the abduction, their whereabouts remained unknown, as the kidnappers did not communicate with the family.

Confirming the report, the command’s Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Usman Abdullahi, said: “It is true that the bodies of the seven members of the monarch’s family have been found.”

Explaining further, he said that eight members of the monarch’s family—two wives, and six children were kidnapped.

He disclosed that while one of the children escaped from the kidnappers’ den, their abductors killed the others.

Also, the monarch confessed that the decomposed bodies of his two wives and five children have been found.

Visibly dejected, he said: “The bodies of my family members killed by the kidnappers have been found and will be brought to Mutum-Biyu for burial today (Saturday).”

Members of the community, who spoke with The Guardian lamented that no concrete efforts were made by the state government to rescue the victims.

They, therefore, pleaded with the Federal Government to draft additional security operatives to the council to prevent another incident.
