Delta police kill suspected kidnapper, nab three others
Operatives of Delta State Police Command have killed one suspected kidnapper and arrested three others for allegedly killing their victim at Agbarho town, Ughelli North Local Council of the state.
Spokesperson for the Command, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Bright Edafe, told The Guardian in Asaba that the suspects allegedly kidnapped and murdered one Godspower Emmanuel ‘m’, after collecting N400,000 ransom from the deceased’s family.
According to Edafe, reports of kidnapping and armed robbery operations in Ughelli, Warri and environs, prompted the State Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations), Johnson Adenola, to mandate all divisional police officers in the Command to gather intelligence and ensure that the trend is nipped in the bud.
“In compliance with this directive, on April 30, 2023 at about 1300hrs, policemen acting on information received an intelligence that the armed robbery gang snatched one AK47 rifle from a police officer, went out in full force to apprehend them in their hideout.
“The gang members were indeed smoked out when they were sited at a hotel in Agbarho, and the DPO Ovwian Aladja division, CSP Aliyu Shaba immediately mobilised and led detectives to the area.
“While the search was ongoing, the suspects sighted the policemen from hiding and opened fire, to which the police equally responded.
“ During the gun duel, one Felix a.k.a ‘OBJ’ was shot and later confirmed dead at the hospital, while three other suspects namely- Stephen Precious ‘m’ 19, Godstime Sunday ‘m’ 28, and Apene Prince ‘m’ 28, were arrested with bullet injuries,” he said.
He explained that one AK 47 rifle with breech no.19617, 18 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, one English double barrel gun, 11 android phones, two regular phones, one long knife, one suspected stolen white-coloured GLK Mercedes Benz with registration no. YAB 733 BK, two bottles of codeine, and two wraps of weed suspected to be Cannabis sativa, were recovered from them.
