‘Demilitarise Igbolands and fight Boko Haram at the borders’

The World Igbo Congress said it received the sad news of killing of many Nigerian soldiers at Metele village in Guzamala Local Government, Borno State with shock, saying this is another evidence of government failure to allocate resources meaningfully to achieve the desired result and make an effective impact.

Public Relations Officer of the organisation, Basil Onwukwe, in a release called on government to “demilitarise eastern region and stop the use of Nigerian army for political intimidation and extortion machinery against our citizenry in the eastern part of the country and concentrate on Boko Haram of the Northern states.

The deployment of soldiers must be based on the assignment against foreign aggression not as domestic violence control.”The congress also said soldiers that escaped the carnage lamented the deplorable condition of service in the camp. The morale of the soldiers is highly undermined, when their colleagues that are used for political thuggery make more money. “We understand that the killed young eastern soldiers in this recent attack signed to defend the country with their lives,” it said.
