Democracy Network tells Anambra voters to defend their votes
Ahead of the November 18 Anambra State governorship election, a pro-democracy group, Democracy network (DN), has enjoined the electorate to endeavour to ensure that their votes count.
Convener of the group, Prince Uche Wogu, who spoke while launching “Don’t eat your future campaign” in Abuja, explained that the goal can be realised if voters cast their votes and remain until results are announced by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
While calling on the electorate to ignore calls on them not to participate in the poll, Wogu warned against the practice of voters trading off their votes for material gains.
Wogu said the group would soon embark on a nationwide voters sensitisation to curtail the ugly trend, which was responsible for bad governance in the polity, saying DN would strive to avert voters apathy in the election poll as part of effort to ensure that whoever emerges as governor of the state would administer it in line with the wishes and aspirations of the people.
He disclosed that the group, whose objectives include the promotion of a healthy and balanced relationship between the elected and the electorate, has developed a report toolkit aimed at appraising the performance of elected office holders across the country.
