The Department of State Security Services (DSS) has granted permission to lawyers to gain access to the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Mr Nnamdi Kanu.

This is made known by a House of Representatives member representing Ikwuano/Umuahia North/Umuahia South Federal Constituency, Abia State, Obi Aguocha, who visited Kanu at the DSS facility on Thursday, this week.

Aguocha was recently approached by Kanu’s legal team, complaining over their inability to interface with the detained IPOB leader.

Aguocha commended the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dr Tajudeen Abass, and the DSS leadership over the resolution of the issue.

The lawmaker who visited Kanu, in the company of an immediate family member, Ms Ezioma Stella Ikpo expressed satisfaction over his state of health.

The lawmaker disclosed that Kanu’s healthcare needs were met, including approval of his request for access and attention to private medical care and a doctor of his choice even as recently as October 3, 2024.

Kanu, who was arrested on June 27, 2021, in Kenya and subsequently extradited to Nigeria, is facing charges of terrorism, treasonable felony, and inciting violence through his Radio Biafra, amongst others.
