Edo APC National Assembly caucus endorse Obaseki for governor
The governorship ambition of the Chairman, Edo State Economic Team, Godwin Obaseki, received a boost yesterday as the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Assembly caucus from Edo State endorsed his ambition to be the party’s candidate in the September 10 governorship election.
The leader of the caucus and Senator representing Edo North Senatorial District, Francis Alimekhena, disclosed this during the presentation of the Nomination and Expression of Interest forms to Obaseki. Alimekhena, who is also the Deputy Chief in the Senate, said: “We believe in him (Obaseki), having been the chairman of the state economic team. He is the only person who can take over from Adams Oshiomhole. That is why we believe in him and have committed our resources for him. It is not only the forms; we are going out to appeal so that they (delegates) will vote for him during (the) primaries and the election. We believe he is the right one who will fit into the shoes of Governor Adams Oshiomhole. On behalf of APC caucus in the National Assembly, market women, youths, we believe in Obaseki because he has the capacity to manage the resources”.
While receiving the party’s Nomination and Expression of Interest forms, which he said was purchased for him by the APC members in the National Assembly caucus, market women and his family members, Obaseki appealed to his other co-aspirants to see the contest as a brotherly one rather than a war. “I want to assure you that I will continue the good work Oshiomhole has started. By the time we finish in eight years time, Edo state will not be the same again. “I have accepted the form and I want to assure you that, by the grace of God, I will be your candidate come June 18. I want to appeal to my co-aspirants in this race that we are in a contest; we are all trying to serve Edo state. It is a contest, not a war,” he said.
