An eight-storey building under construction with unidentified number of persons trapped in it has collapsed in Owerri, Imo State. The Guardian learnt that it had been marked as a hotel, just as Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the state Police Command, Orlando Godson Ikeokwu, a Superintendent of Police (SP), confirmed the incident, saying the facility is located on Yar’A Musa Drive, by Hot FM.

As at the time of filing this report, rescuers have begun to rescue trapped persons, even as an eyewitness confirmed that before the collapse, a loud noise was heard as artisans were working on the site.

Walter Duru, Media aide to immediate past Deputy Governor of the state, Gerald Irona, said he suspected that the owner of the collapsed structure lives abroad, adding that he had identified with the administration of Emeka Ihedioha, when he invited Imo people in diaspora to come and invest at home.
