Ekiti Assembly elects Aribisogan as speaker, other new principal officers
Ekiti State House of Assembly, yesterday, elected Mr. Gboyega Aribisogan, who represents Ikole-Ekiti Constituency I, as the new Speaker.
He was elected at plenary following the demise of the former Speaker, Funminiyi Afuye, who died last month during a brief illness.
He polled 15 votes to defeat Olubunmi Adelugba, a candidate allegedly favoured by the leadership of the party in the state, who represents Emure Constituency, to win the election.
Aribisogan was nominated by Mr. Tajudeen Akingbolu, Ekiti West I and seconded by Adegoke Olajide, Efon Constituency, while Mr. Bode Adeoye Oyekola, Ekiti West II, nominated Olubunmi Adelugba and was seconded by Mr. Ojo Martin from Ijero Constituency.
After being sworn in by the Clerk of the House, Mr. Tola Esan, the new Speaker pledged to discharge his duties to the best of his ability and protect the constitution of the country and Standing Rules of the House of Assembly.
He also promised to remain committed to duty.
RELATEDLY, a new set of principal officers has emerged in the Assembly following the emergence of Aribisogan as Speaker.
The new list of principal officers as released by Aribisogan have Hakeem Jamiu retaining his position as Deputy Speaker, while Yemisi Ayokunle, representing Ekiti South West Constituency I, is the new Leader of Business, thus becoming the first woman legislator to occupy the post in the history of the House.
Other principal officers include Tope Ogunleye (Chief Whip), Tajudeen Akingbolu (Deputy Leader) and Adeteju Okuyiga (Deputy Whip).
