Ekwebelem emerges Imo SDP guber candidate

A Governorship candidate on the platform of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) for the November 11 governorship election in Imo State, Obinna Ekwebelem, has emerged, following the party’s primary on Tuesday.

Ekwebelem polled 976 votes to emerge winner. Other candidates had withdrawn from the contest before the exercise conducted at the party’s headquarters on Wetheral Road, Owerri, the state capital.

In his post election speech, Ekwebelem, promised to channel his energy as a young man to fix the state, with special focus on infrastructure, economy, welfare of citizens and security among others, noting that the opportunity would not be in vain.

He said: “I want to tell you that as a young man, I assure you that the ticket you have given to me will not be in vain.”

Addressing journalists, the state Chairman of the party, Marshal Okoraforanyanwu, said the party was in for a new dawn, adding that, comparatively, SDP conducted a peaceful contest different from what other parties did.

Okoraforanyanwu, maintained that, under his watch, SDP will not deviate from offering dividend of democracy, including internal democracy.
