Elderly woman receives vital support from Isioma Humanitarian Foundation’s Elder Smile Project

In a heartwarming display of compassion, Abianberi Praise, a 72-year-old visually impaired resident of Agbere, has received crucial assistance from the Isioma Humanitarian Foundation (ISHF) through its Elder Smile Project. This initiative is dedicated to aiding vulnerable elderly individuals throughout Bayelsa State, addressing the pressing needs of those facing significant challenges related to age and isolation.

Abianberi, a mother of one, has relied heavily on the goodwill of her neighbors since her son left for the city in search of employment, a journey that has left her without communication from him. Despite her blindness, she has skillfully adapted to her solitary life, using her memory to navigate her familiar surroundings. However, her situation becomes dire when neighbors are unavailable to assist her, often leaving her without food.

During ISHF’s recent visit, the foundation provided Abianberi with monetary assistance and promised continued support. “We love you, and we will continue to check on you from time to time,” the volunteers reassured her, acknowledging her remarkable resilience. Deeply moved by their kindness, Abianberi expressed her heartfelt gratitude, offering prayers for the volunteers and commending their efforts to uplift those in need.

The Elder Smile Project represents a significant aspect of ISHF’s broader mission, which aims to tackle the unique challenges faced by elderly individuals like Abianberi, who often endure isolation and neglect in rural areas. With a commitment to expanding the project’s reach, ISHF is dedicated to providing similar support to more communities throughout Bayelsa State, ensuring that vulnerable seniors receive the assistance and care they deserve.
