Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero yesterday led hundreds of residents at the ancient Kano central mosque to seek spiritual intervention against coronavirus in the country.

Prior to yesterday’s prayers, Ado had directed all district heads, traditional chiefs and chief Imams to lead the campaign on social distancing, personal hygiene and the need to abide by medical precautions to be safe and prevent contracting the disease.

Alhaji Ado urged residents irrespective of faith to dedicate this period of stay to practice self-reflection and devotion to God, cautioning all to obey government directives and policies targeted at curtailing the spread of the virus.

Meanwhile, Kano based non-governmental organization, Tinu Impact and Empowerment Initiative, has disbursed 1,000 hand sanitizers to one thousand households at Kumbotso village, at Kumbotso local government area of Kano state. The initiative was geared to encourage all to imbibe personal hygiene.

Leading a team of volunteers, founder of the NGO, Atinuke Alimi Olamide explained the activity was part of regular empowerment program designed to uplift women and youths. She explained that the sanitizers distributed were locally prepared by hundreds of women who benefited from their empowerment program. She, therefore, called for partnership with government agencies and other relevant bodies to improve locally produced sanitizers and other consumables to save cost.
