Ensure kids are not idle hands for crime, Afolabi urges parents
Days after the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Imohimi Edgal, sought the support of stakeholders and the community in its fight against cultism and uncontrolled access to drugs and arms at a town hall meeting organised by Area E Police Command in the state for Amuwo-Odofin, Ojo-Oriade and Iba communities, a youth leader in Amuwo-Odofin and aspirant for Lagos State House of Assembly, Afolabi Livingstone Oretan, has called on parents to keep a close watch on the activities of their children and wards during this period.
According to him, many schools are on long vacation and this is a period where young ones should not be left idle to become the devil’s workshop. “Parents should ensure the kids are constructively engaged in profitable ventures that would develop them physically and psychologically.”
He made this known while unveiling his three points agenda, which he termed a three-point motion for difference at the mega assembly rally of the Peoples Democratic Party. He stated his wiliness to turn Amuwo Odofin into an investment hub and move motions in the house that is aimed at alleviating the plight of the people of Amuwo Odofin constituency II if given the mandate.
According to him, there are much work to be done in the constituency especially in the areas of education, housing, skill acquisition, sports and small-scale business. “My first point of difference would be to invest in our children. This is something that needs urgent attention and must be addressed with urgent dispatch.
“My second point of difference would be to rebuild the middle-class of our community. My third point of difference is empowering the people for residential ownership through a micro rent-to-own scheme. It is my desire to ensure that the rebuilding of our middle class will see a lot of people in our community owning their own homes.“It is my desire to make our community a destination hub with high investment potential where every street is a prime investment location.”
