Etsu Nupe, Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar, has urged Nigerians to get the National Identification Number (NIN), through the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), on account of its numerous benefits.

The monarch made this known when the NIMC management paid him a courtesy visit in Bida, yesterday. Abubakar, who is also the chairman, Niger State Council of Traditional Rulers, said it is necessary for Nigerians to register under the Commission to ensure they have the NIN.

The royal father said it would be easier to conduct all government and non-government engagements when the number is acquired.

He noted: “Such numbers will be useful in recruitment of citizens into the various armed forces, security agencies and public service.

“Effective capturing of Nigerians by the NIMC will ensure ease in doing a lot of things in the country as well as curb insecurity.”

The traditional ruler promised to create an awareness campaign for people of his emirate to know the importance of identification numbers.

Mr. Aliyu Aziz, NIMC Director General, who was represented by Mr. Olumoh Habeeb, North Central Regional Director, stressed the need to “seek the support of traditional rulers to achieve the maximum goal of registering all Nigerians.

He added: “This development will help the commission to liaise with traditional rulers to mobilise their subjects to register. We shall be partnering with traditional rulers, so that the mandate of the commission, which is enrolling Nigerian citizens to the national database will be achievable.”
