
Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has instituted legal proceedings against MultiChoice Nigeria Limited and its Chief Executive Officer, John Ugbe, for violating regulatory directives and obstructing an ongoing inquiry.
A statement signed by its Director, Corporate Affairs, OndajeIjagwu, in Abuja yesterday, accused Multichoice of engaging in conduct deemed violations of the provisions of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Act (FCCPA) 2018.
MEANWHILE, the federal lawmaker representing Oredo Federal Constituency, Esosa Iyawe, yesterday, alerted the House of Representativesto the need to probe frequent subscription price increase by the management of Multichoice, the operator of DStv and GOtv.
He urged its Committee on Commerce to investigate the alleged frequent price hikes and recommend policies to ensure fair pricing for Nigerian subscribers.
Iyawe, in the motion raised under Matters of Urgent Public Importance, called on the management of Multichoice to suspend its planned price increase, citing the current economic hardship facing Nigerians as his reason for the motion.
Iyawe, in his motion, highlighted that the planned price increase by Multichoice, would be the second price hike in less than a year, with the last increase in May 2024.
