The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested 98 scavengers popularly called  ‘bola boys’ for allegedly stealing manhole covers, streetlights and other public infrastructure within Abuja.

Parading the suspects at the Command’s headquarters, Abuja, the Deputy Police Commissioner (DCP), Ben Igweh, told the scavengers that the seat of power is not for everybody.

He said the suspects would be tried in a special court and sent back to their various states of origin.

The DCP told newsmen that some strange persons have been trooping into the nation’s capital, adding that the Command was working towards sending such elements out of Abuja.

He said: “Abuja is not for everybody. We have asked them to go where they are supposed to be. We are working towards clearing them from the FCT. We will keep doing that and we will not relent.

“Several things were recovered from them that they are not supposed to scavenge. They steal properties, while claiming to scavenge wastes. They vandalise manholes, streetlights and other critical public infrastructure put in place by the government.

“We have asked them to relocate. Many people have been trooping into the FCT. Some of them are coming with evil intentions. Whenever you see them, let us know.
“We are taking them to court to make sure that justice is served. We have serious security issues now because of threats from so many places, this is why we must not allow these suspects to thrive.”
