The Federal Government has sent a high-powered delegation led by the Chief of Staff (CoS) to the President, Prof Abdullahi Gambari, to commiserate with the victims of last week’s fire outbreak at Sokoto Central Market

The Federal Government has sent a high-powered delegation led by the Chief of Staff (CoS) to the President, Prof Abdullahi Gambari, to commiserate with the victims of last week’s fire outbreak at Sokoto Central Market, which led to the destruction of shops and property worth billions of naira.

Speaking at Government House, Sokoto, yesterday, Gambari said President Muhammadu Buhari was touched when he heard the news of the fire outbreak.

According to the CoS, the president should have been in Sokoto in person, but couldn’t make it due to official engagement; hence he mandated them to commiserate with the people of Sokoto.

He added that the Federal Government would assist the state government to rebuild the market.

Responding, Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto thanked Buhari for not abandoning them at the trying moment. He told the delegation that the fire was caused by a faulty transformer serving the market, disclosing that 60 per cent of the 16,000 shops in the market was destroyed by the inferno.
