As U.S. pauses attack on Iran

Federal Government has condemned the ongoing tensions and reported attacks involving the Houthi militia in Yemen and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, who disclosed the country’s position, strongly called on all parties to exercise maximum restraint, immediately de-escalate the situation, and refrain from any further actions that could inflame hostilities or endanger civilian lives and regional peace and stability.

In a statement by the ministry’s Spokesperson, Kimiebi Ebienfa, the Federal Government urged the parties concerned to prioritise dialogue, diplomacy, and peaceful means of resolving differences in accordance with the principles of the United Nations Charter and international law.

According to the statement, Nigeria believes that any further escalation of the conflict risks undermining regional security and stability.

“The Federal Government of Nigeria, therefore, reaffirms its steadfast commitment to the peaceful settlement of disputes and expresses its readiness to support all genuine and constructive efforts aimed at reducing tensions.”

Restoring calm and promoting lasting peace and stability in the region,” the Foreign Affairs Ministry said.

Meanwhile, the U.S. military did not announce new strikes against Iran on Friday and Saturday after attacking the country for 13 straight nights.

CNN reported that Department of War officials disclosed on Saturday that operations are “on hold.”

Iran said yesterday it had halted retaliatory attacks against US allies in the Middle East after Washington stopped its strikes on the country for the past two nights.

The Iranian declaration came after Washington paused a war nearing its fifth month and reports emerged that concerns over dwindling munitions were restraining plans for further escalation.

“These attacks continued until two nights ago, but over the past two nights the Americans have stopped their attacks. “Since our strategy has essentially been retaliatory, we have also halted our retaliatory operations,” said Army spokesman Mohammad Akraminia.
