Police deny the alleged acid attack, order investigation

Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, has appointed the former Vice President (Communications), American University of Nigeria (AUN), Yola, Professor Abubakar Tahir, as the Caretaker Chairman of Yola South Local Council.

His appointment was contained in a press statement issued in Yola, yesterday, by the state government.

Tahir, who resigned from AUN, took an appointment with the Adamawa Emirate Council as Director, Information and Communications.

The former correspondent of Voice of Nigeria in Lagos became the first Northerner to chair the Lagos chapter of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).

The Lamido of Adamawa Emirate Council and Chairman Pulaku Worldwide, HRH (Dr.) Mustapha Barkindo, on New Year day, turbaned Tahir as the Kakaakey of the Emirate Council, the first person to occupy the office.

He will take the oath of office today in Adamawa Government House with other 20 appointed caretaker chairmen.
IN another development, the Adamawa police command has denied knowledge of the acid attack on any resident of the state.

Spokesman of the command, DSP Sulaiman Nguroje, said that one Yawas Mohammed reported at Jimeta Police Station that unknown people attacked him in his house.

According to Nguroje, the Commissioner of Police has already directed a full investigation of the allegation.

“I was surprised to read in one online medium about the acid attack. How can someone attacked with acid go to police station himself to report? Then it is not acid,” he said.
