First Republic Minister, Chief Mbazulike Amechi, has announced the death of his wife, Iyom Chinelo Amechi at 91.

Addressing newsmen yesterday in his country home, Ukpor, Nnewi South Council of Anambra State, the ex-minister disclosed that Chinelo Amechi died on July 23, 2021 at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital (NAUTH), Nnewi after a brief illness.

He further stated that his deceased wife hailed from Umuoji in Idemili South Council of the state, and later retired as Chief Nursing Officer in 1982 at the Mburi General Hospital, Nnewi, now NAUTH.

The former minister described the deceased as a typical professional nurse and good housewife, who blended her professional work with family responsibilities.

He, however, noted that he later wedded at the Holy Trinity, Onitsha after about 10 months of courtship, adding: “She was head of the Catholic Women Organisation (CWO) in the church and played a prominent role during my nationalist activities.

“I am happy to marry her, because she helped to nurse me. I appreciate the time we spent together and her many legacies will be greatly missed by the entire family”.

Meanwhile, a statement signed by Tagbo Amechi on behalf of the family, revealed that details of the burial arrangements would be announced later.
