Five Akwa Ibom COVID-19 patients need no ventilator — CMD


The Chief Medical Director of Ibom Multi Specialty Hospital, Prof. Emmanuel Ekanem has disclosed that the five identified Coronavirus patients in Akwa Ibom State are responding to treatment at the hospital’s isolation facilities, and had no need for ventilators. 

Ekanem expressed optimism that, with the quality of facilities provided by the governor, there would be no fatality in the state.

He made the disclosure, yesterday, while taking delivery of hand sanitisers and protective equipment donated to the hospital by Akwa Ibom branch of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN). 


Ekanem said the five persons, who tested positive to COVID-19 in the state, were in a stable condition.

The state Chairman of PSN, Dr. Akwaowo Akpabio said: “The PSN was ready to provide volunteers to assist hospitals across the state, as the quest to end the pandemic intensifies.”  

He revealed that PSN would also donate to Infectious Disease Hospital, Ikot Ekpene and other health facilities.

Also, the Akwa Ibom State Chairman, Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria, Mrs. Emilia Eleazer, commended the government for positive response to the recommendations made by professional health care workers in the state.
