PRESIDENT and Chairman-in-Council, Association of Professional Bodies of Nigeria (APBN), Manason Garkuwa Rubainu, has said the Chartered Institute of Forensics and Certified Fraud Investigators of Nigeria (CIFCFIN) is crucial to nation building.

Rubainu spoke during the induction of CIFCFIN as a corporate member of the APBN, which is the umbrella body of all registered professional bodies in Nigeria. Manason noted that the induction marked a significant milestone not only for CIFCFIN, but also for the entire professional bodies in Nigeria.

The induction took place in Abuja recently.

He commended the institute for deploying forensic and fraud investigation skills, strategies and expertise to fight corruption and financial crimes in Nigeria. “Accountability, transparency and forensic investigation are central to our national discourse. The expertise of CIFCFIN in forensics and fraud investigation would undoubtedly elevate Nigeria’s capacity to ensure transparency and uphold justice in the system and serve as a powerful deterrent to those that may seek to undermine the progress of the country,” he said.

He stated that CIFCFIN’s expertise in forensics and fraud investigation had the potential for cross-professional collaborations that could produce ground-breaking outcomes, saying that he could envision forensic investigators’ collaborative synergy in the area of fraud detection within the APBN, as he believed the integration of CIFCFIN into APBN would open up new opportunities for learning, cooperation and national development.

Rubainu said he was optimistic about what the future held for APBN and CIFCFIN as part of their professional family, saying that they would together chart new paths, overcome new challenges, and achieve new milestones in their shared quest for a prosperous and a well-governed Nigeria.

On the importance of adhering to professional standards and ethics, the APBN President said: “At the heart of any profession are the standards and ethics that guides its members. APBN prides itself on upholding the highest standards of professionalism across all sectors, and I believe that CIFCFIN, by the nature of its mission, is an institute that deeply align with these principles. I urge you to continue promoting ethical conduct, professionalism, and excellence in your field. These values not only elevate the reputation of our professions but also ensure that we are seen as credible partners in nation-building.”

Responding, the Registrar/CEO of CIFCFIN, Dr Isa Salifu, who represented the President/Chairman-in-Council, Dr Iliyasu Gashinbaki, said the institute considered the induction as a major privilege, and would be coming into the APBN with some values that would support and strengthen what the body was already doing.

“It is important to state that the core values of CIFCFIN can be summarised into what we call EPIC – Excellence, Professionalism, Integrity and Courage. And I want to assure you that we are bound to bring in these values to the table in working as a body within the APBN as the umbrella organisation of all professional bodies in the country,” he said.”
