Gambari tasks Nigerians on healthy living for productivity

Chief of Staff to the President, Prof. Ibrahim Gambari, has said there is no limit to what the nation can achieve with healthy people, stressing that unhealthy living has led to the explosion of diseases such as obesity, diabetes, heart attack, stroke, and hypertension.
Gambari, who said it was important to focus on health as much as work, noted that with the demand for more working hours, people stay up late into the night and eat junk food rather than home-cooked meals.

He made this known at the weekend in Abuja during the launch of a book titled, ‘Your Microbiome is a Wonder of Nature: Activate and Actualise’.
While stating that the book highlights the fact that to live well means eating natural whole foods, he encouraged Nigerians to prevent unhealthy conditions and diseases through healthy meals.
He said: “We, as a people, must encourage the follow-up initiatives after the launching to create massive awareness to enhance wellness and quality of life of our fellow citizens. We owe it a duty to create an enabling environment to stay mentally and physically fit for our nation and ourselves.”

The author, Ambassador Ositadinma Anaedu, said writing the book came from his personal experience when he had high blood pressure and high cholesterol due to a change in diet.
He warned: “We want to let the youths know that it takes decades for things you did before to emerge as a problem. I am seeing younger people getting permanent pregnancies of fat. The moment it happens, you have lost control.”
