Gani Adams’ life is blueprint for true progress, national cohesion, says Hamzat

As Nigeria stands at a critical crossroads in nationhood, only a leadership that embodies courage, integrity, visionary governance, and unwavering commitment to national unity, can make it experience true development.

Akinrogun Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland, Otunba Adewale Hamzat, made this observation while extolling the virtues of the Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland, Iba Gani Adams, in an interview ahead of Iba Adams’ 56th birthday anniversary celebration on Friday, May 1.

While congratulating the Yoruba Generalissimo on his birthday, Hazmat noted that as the nation continues to grapple with socio-economic challenges, recurring incidences of insecurity, and cultural divisions, the virtues exemplified by Adams offered a blueprint for true progress and national cohesion.

He said that Iba Adams had long been recognised for his courage and integrity, particularly in his role as the National Coordinator of the Oodua People’s Congress (OPC), adding that his fearless advocacy for the rights and welfare of the Yoruba people underscored a leadership style grounded in discipline and dignity of labour.

Hazmat said: “His appointment as the 15th Aare Ona Kakanfo in 2017 was a testament to his steadfast dedication to his people and culture.

“Beyond courage, Adams is a visionary leader. His establishment of the Oodua Progressive Union (OPU) in 2011 reflects a forward-thinking approach aimed at fostering unity among the Yoruba diaspora and preserving cultural heritage. This visionary governance is precisely what Nigeria needs to harness its diverse potentials and build a future that respects its rich cultural mosaic.”

Highlighting Adams’s commitment to national unity, Hazmat said this virtue is evident in his active mediation of conflicts within Yorubaland, including his recent intervention in disputes between prominent traditional rulers.

“Such efforts highlight the importance of reconciliation and peace-building in maintaining social harmony—an essential foundation for any nation’s progress.

“Adams also advocates for socio-economic development, openly addressing the pressing economic and security challenges facing Nigeria. His calls for responsive governance and accountability resonate deeply in a country where citizens demand effective leadership that prioritises their welfare.

“In a nation as diverse as Nigeria, leadership that promotes political stability, fosters patriotism, and upholds social justice is indispensable. The virtues of discipline, integrity, religious tolerance, and self-reliance, as championed by Iba Gani Adams, align closely with the fundamental objectives of the Nigerian Constitution and the national ethos,” Hazmat added.

For Nigeria to truly progress, Hamzat stressed that it must embrace leaders who not only envision a better future but also possess the courage and integrity to realise it.

“The example set by the Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland serves as a compelling call for leadership that unites, inspires, and drives the nation towards lasting peace and prosperity,” Hazmat said.
