NDPHC expands dedicated power supply to businesses
Geometric Power Group is positioning its Aba power project for expansion to as much as 500 megawatts as the company seeks to meet rising electricity demand across the Southeast and South-South regions.
The Group Managing Director of the company, Mrs Agatha Nnaji, disclosed this yesterday while explaining the next phase of the company’s expansion and the financing support that helped it complete the Aba Integrated Power Project.
Nnaji said the company currently had 141 megawatts of installed capacity from three turbines, while the foundation for a fourth turbine had already been completed.
She said the fourth turbine would raise installed capacity to 188 megawatts, adding that the company had designed its gas infrastructure to support further expansion to 500 megawatts.
“Our 12-inch gas pipeline, which is about 27 kilometres from Owaza to here, would provide enough gas for up to 500 megawatts within this footprint,” she said.
Nnaji said the expansion would enable Geometric Power to serve more customers in Aba and potentially supply distribution companies in the South-East and South-South.
She explained that the company had already supplied electricity to some underserved communities in Rivers State, although extending its operations beyond its immediate franchise area required approval from the relevant distribution company and the regulator.
She said the company’s expansion strategy was based on a value chain covering gas supply, generation, substations, distribution transformers and end users.
According to her, this integrated approach would make it easier for the company to increase generation as demand grows.
MEANWHILE, the Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC) is expanding its efforts to connect more manufacturers, industries, and large commercial operators to dedicated electricity supply through its Eligible Customer Programme, as the company moves to unlock additional capacity from its generation portfolio.
The programme offers qualifying customers a dedicated power supply under mutually agreed-upon commercial arrangements, targeting businesses that require reliable, predictable electricity for their operations.
NDPHC Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Jennifer Adighije, disclosed this during the commencement of the company’s Customer Service Week, urging more eligible businesses to take advantage of the programme.
“To our existing customers, thank you for your trust. To businesses yet to join, power your growth with NDPHC’s Eligible Customer Programme, which offers a dedicated power supply and mutually agreed commercial terms,” Adighije said.
