Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni has approved the implementation of the Tractor Hiring Services (TRHS) by 50 per cent for small-scale farmers in each of the 178 communities in the state.
According to him, the TRHS rate has been slashed by the state government from N100,000 to N50,000.
The acting Secretary to the State Government, Dr Mohammed Goje, announced the new development on Monday in Damaturu , describing the 50 per cent subsidy, as a strategic intervention to ease the burden on farmers, increased
access to mechanized farming, and improve agricultural productivity across the state.
The SSG noted that the reduction in tractor hiring fees will enable more farmers to cultivate larger portions of arable land, increase production, and maximise their yields during the current farming season.

He added that the intervention is expected to significantly reduce the cost of cultivation, boost food security strengthen food security, and improve the economic wellbeing of farming communities throughout the state.
Goje stressed that Governor Buni’s administration has continued to place agriculture at the forefront of its development agenda through sustained investments in tractors, agricultural machinery, improved seeds, fertilisers, irrigation support, and other farmer-friendly programmes designed to empower rural communities and stimulate economic growth.
The acting SSG explained that making tractor services more affordable would encourage greater participation in farming activities, enhance productivity, and support the state’s drive towards agricultural self-sufficiency.
He, therefore reaffirmed the commitment of the Buni administration to implement policies and programmes that could promote agricultural development, create jobs for youths , and improve livelihoods, and ensure sustainable economic growth for the people of Yobe stat
The 50% fall in the tractor hire fees is widely seen as another bold step by Governor Buni towards supporting farmers, increasing food production, and building a more prosperous and food-secure Yobe State.
