Government extends Eid holiday to tomorrow
The Federal Government yesterday added Thursday 7, 2016, as public holiday for the celebration of Eid-El-Fitri, having declared Tuesday July 5 and Wednesday July 6 2016 earlier.
Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Interior, Bassey Okon Akpanyung, said the decision follows a directive by the President General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, the Sultan of Sokoto, “to the effect that the Ramadan fast continues today (Tuesday) as a result of the non-sighting of the moon.”
He added that in making the declaration on behalf of the Federal Government, Minister of Interior, Lt. Gen. (rtd) Abdulrahman Bello Dambazau, urged Nigerians to use the period for sober reflections.
