• DG urges issue-based campaign

A group, the Concerned Taraba Citizens, has alleged that Governor AgbuKefas’s administration failed to fulfil 42 campaign promises, thereby putting him under renewed political pressure in his 2027 re-election bid.

The group said the alleged unfulfilled promises cut across critical sectors, including roads and transportation, education, healthcare, water supply, electricity, employment and workers’ welfare.

However, the Director-General of the Dr AgbuKefas Re-election Campaign Council, Danladi Baido, has called on political actors, supporters and campaigners in the state to embrace peaceful and issue-based campaigns ahead of the commencement of the campaign activities.

In a statement yesterday by the Director of Media and Publicity of the re-election council, Emmanuel Bello, Baido said campaigns should not be treated as warfare, stressing that all political parties and candidates deserve a peaceful environment to canvass for votes.

In a statement by the Executive Director, Yakubu Haruna, the group said the administration’s performance should be assessed against the financial resources available to it since Kefas assumed office as governor in 2023.

Among his alleged failed promises, the group listed the proposed dualisation of the Jalingo-Wukari, Bali-Gembu, and Zing-Wukari roads; construction of the Jalingo-Karim Lamido, Wukari-Chinkai, Donga-Bentaje-Tunari, and Lafiya-Jen roads; water and electricity supply; and youth employment and the settlement of outstanding salaries, pensions, and gratuity obligations.

Nevertheless, Baido warned supporters against thuggery and other forms of violence, noting that the Taraba State Government had already taken steps to discourage violent political activities through its executive order against thuggery. He said that this covers both physical violence and cyberbullying.
