The Coalition of Northern Groups (CNGs) has hinted that it had concluded arrangements to reclaim job opportunities in the North occupied by southerners in the northern part of the country.

The Coalition of Northern Groups (CNGs) has hinted that it had concluded arrangements to reclaim job opportunities in the North occupied by southerners in the northern part of the country.

CNG’s Spokesperson, Abdul-Azeez Sulaiman, said a portal had been unveiled for the registration of duly qualified northerners to take up the positions hitherto occupied by Nigerians of southern extraction in the north.

The group also faulted Governor Nyesom Wike for allegedly declaring Rivers State as a Christian state and ordering the demolition of a Mosque in breach of the guaranteed freedom of every Nigerian to practice their faith wherever they reside in the country.

It further described the decision of the Lagos State Government to ban Okada riders from operating as targeted at northerners who are permitted by law to operate without any hindrance in any part of the country.

Lamenting the development, the group urged the Federal Government, northern governors, and legislators to take immediate steps to reassert the rights of all Nigerians to practice their choice of religion anywhere.

It also stressed the need to draw Governor Wike’s attention to the consequences of repudiating the nation’s secular arrangement.

The group restated concerns for the personal liberty and safety of northerners pushed by circumstances to seek means of livelihood in other parts of the country.

However, it resolved to ensure that all job opportunities in the North that have been unduly monopolised by southerners were reclaimed and restored appropriately.

In that regard, it explained that it had unveiled a portal for registration of all employable northern youths, their states of origin, educational qualifications and skills, obtaining comprehensive statistics of all existing private establishments in the North including insurance firms, banking, and financial institutions, among others.
