Group urges govt to protect people living with disability
The President, Special Persons Association of Nigeria (SPAN), Prince-will David, has said the hope of persons living with disabilities to have vocational training centre may not be realised, due to Lagos State government road construction that has claimed the proposed site for the vocational centre.
He stated that the association’s aim is to provide equal opportunities for persons with disabilities to live a normal life, so as to achieve their goals in life.
He noted that part of the association’s objective is to protect persons living with the disabilities from child abuse, juvenile delinquency and other social vices, as well as provide adequate welfare to build on the talent and aspiration of persons living with disabilities.
David pointed out that the association discourages destitution and street begging and different forms of menace among people living with disabilities, so as to achieve their inherent God-given talent.
Also speaking at the rally, the National Coordinator of the association, Chidi Nwankwo, urged the state government to help the association regain its lost landed property in Ikorodu area of the state.
He further stated that hoodlums invaded the association’s headquarters in Lagos, destroying properties worth millions of naira, aside injuring the disabled president and others staffs and cart away millions of naira.
