Ndigbo Unity Forum (NUF), an Igbo socio-cultural group, on Monday appealed to the Inspector-General of Police, Mr Ibrahim Idris, to shield Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka from his attackers.

Ndigbo Unity Forum (NUF), an Igbo socio-cultural group, on Monday appealed to the Inspector-General of Police, Mr Ibrahim Idris, to shield Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka from his attackers.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the call followed the alleged attempt to assassinate Fr. Mbaka in the evening of Dec.6.

Mbaka, who is the Spiritual Director of Adoration Ministry Enugu Nigeria (AMEN), had alleged that some unidentified gunmen fired gun shots at his vehicle, in transit in Enugu.

The President of NUF, Mr Augustine Chukwudum, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Enugu that, the police boss needed to investigate the attempt to assassinate Mbaka.

According to Chukwudum, the plan to assassinate Mbaka is politically motivated by the elite who are not happy that the catholic priest speaks the truth, no matter whose ox is gored.

He said: “NUF is condemning this barbaric act and call on the Nigeria Police to make sure that the people behind the evil act do not go scot-free.

“This is the time to bring those behind the evil act to face the full wrath of the law.

“We will not rest until those behind the evil act are brought to book, that is the only way justice can be done.

“NUF also demands that the police boss provide adequate security for Mbaka, to avoid another attempted assassination on his life.’’

The NUF leader, however, called on politicians to stop playing politics of bitterness but be good sportsmen and women.

“Let politicians go to Nigerians and tell them what they can offer, if given the power to rule.

“Nigerians clamour for issue-based campaigns that will better their lives and not campaign of calumny and hate speech.’’
