Gunmen abduct Catholic priest, six others in Enugu

A Catholic priest, Fr. Okide and six other individuals have been abducted by armed gunmen along the Eke-Egede-Affa Road in the Udi Local Government Area of Enugu State.

The Diocesan Chancellor and Secretary, Rev. Fr. Wilfred Chidi Agubuchie, confirmed the incident, revealing that the abducted priest, Fr. Okide, was abducted on Sunday at about 5:00 pm, as he was en route to his parish, St. Mary Amofia-Agu in Affa.

An eyewitness said that the kidnappers left the children of the other victims inside their car, crying helplessly before police operatives arrived at the scene to evacuate them.

Reports indicate that the kidnappers have initiated contact with the relatives of the victims and are demanding ₦100 million as ransom in exchange for the release of Fr. Okide and the other captives,

Meanwhile, the Catholic Church has issued a call for prayers, imploring the faithful and the community to seek divine intervention for the swift and safe release of Fr. Okide and the other victims.
