Gunmen kill Ex Zamfara guber aspirant, kidnap many travellers on Kaduna-Abuja highway

Bandits have reportedly killed a former Zamfara State governorship aspirant and one time director of protocol at the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Alh Sagir Hamidu, in a kidnap attack on Kaduna-Abuja road.

Our correspondent gathered that the incident which happened at about 2pm Sunday afternoon, led to the kidnap of many travellers plying the road by gunmen.

Locals near Katari village told journalists that the gunmen blocked the Abuja-Kaduna highway for about an hour and went away with many travellers.

According to the locals, the gunmen opened fire on travellers, making many drivers to lose control, while many passengers who attempted to run were fired at.

“When we heard gunshots, we quickly made a u-turn until after 2 hours when the bandits left that we continued our journey,” an eyewtiness said.

“On our way we saw over ten cars empty. The occupants might have been kidnapped or were able to run into the nearby forests for their lives.”

A source said Hamidu was among the travellers and was killed on the spot.

However, the police in Kaduna could not be reached for an inquiry about the incident.
