Oyo State House of Assembly, yesterday, re-elected the member representing Ibarapa East Constituency, Adebo Ogundoyin, as Speaker of the 10th Assembly.
Ogundoyin’s re-election is the first time a lawmaker will be elected Speaker for two consecutive assemblies without interruption in the state.
Ogundoyin was re-elected during inauguration of the 10th Assembly, presided over by the Clerk of the House, Yetunde Awe.
Motion for nomination of the Speaker was moved by the member representing Iseyin/Itesiwaju Constituency, Adeola Bamidele, and seconded by Babajide Gabriel of Ibadan North II Constituency.
The Speaker emerged unopposed, as there was no other nomination for the position.
The 36-year-old Speaker is the highest-ranking member in the state of Assembly, having joined the legislature in 2018.
ALSO, the member representing Miga Constituency in Jigawa State, Haruna Dangyatin, and his Gumel Constituency counterpart, Sani Isyaku Abubakar, have emerged as the Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the 8th Assembly.
The duo emerged at an election of principal officers of the House, yesterday, presided over by the Clerk, Nusa Abubakar.
The election of Dangyatin, who was the only contestant, was sequel to his nomination by Hamza Ibrahim from Malammadori Constituency and seconded by Mohammed Kabiru Ibrahim from Birnin Kudu Constituency.
Lawal Ahmed Dansube representing Roni Constituency, seconded by Aliyu Ahmed Aliyu representing Kirikasama State Constituency nominated the deputy Speaker.
It was gathered that the election of the new Speaker complied with APC zoning arrangement in the state, which has the Speaker from Miga Council of the South West District, the governor, Umar Namadi, and his deputy, Aminu Usman, from Jigawa North East and North West, respectively.
