I never celebrated death of CoS, sacked Kano commissioner clarifies
Former Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure in Kano State, Mu’azu Magaji, has denied uttering words that suggest his celebration of the passage of the Chief of Staff to the President, Mallam Abba Kyari.
The ex-official, who was fired by Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje for what was described as derogatory comments regarding the deceased, insisted that his social media posts were “misunderstood as celebrating the death of Abba Kyari.”
Magaji had taken to his Facebook page on Saturday writing: “Abba Kyari is no ordinary citizen, he amassed so much power that decided the fate of my nation and its people. Hence his death is never a personal death!”
“When you are all done with the pretence and crocodile tears, we will do a review in overriding interest of the nation and its people!”
“I am not a hypocrite and I won’t pretend! While at personal level, I pray Allah to grant Abba Kyari Jannah… I sincerely believe Nigeria needed a better CoS period!”
“For the good of Nigeria & Mr. President… The CoS office should be split… A PPS & a humble manager of his office as CoS. It’s currently too powerful for (a) non-elected official.”
But the sacked commissioner maintained that the remarks had been misinterpreted by those he described as “agents of the former Chief of Staff” used against him.
In a statement, he personally signed, Magaji stated: “I made several posts mourning Kyari’s death on my same Facebook account and through my special assistants but the general public couldn’t commend such or claim I did such posts, rather tend to capitalise on a full phrase post that is given another set of definition and direction as well as negativity in other to tarnish my reputable image as a member of Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje administration and his loyalist and that of our national party, APC.”
He added: “The use of ‘win win phrase’ is basically an attempt to explain the Islamic promise to the people that died from any pandemic. The late Mallam Abba Kyari was privileged to die as a result of COVID-19, making him among the beneficiaries in Islam. He is conferred with the automatic privilege of martyrdom.”
