Vows to quit office if contradicted
• House confirms 18 commissioner nominees

Apparently agitated by allegations that he influenced the emergence of Siminialayi Fubara, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) gubernatorial candidate for the 2023 general elections in Rivers State, Governor Nyesom Nwike has vowed to resign from office if anyone could prove he promised to make him his successor.

The governor said by virtue of his character, it was inconceivable that he would make such a promise and then renege, thereafter.

Speaking at a state banquet to celebrate the recent conferment of a distinguished award on infrastructure delivery on him by President Muhammadu Buhari in Government House, Port Harcourt, Wike said: “God gives power. There is never any day I sat with anybody (on that). I challenge whoever will say he sat with me and I made a promise (to make him) the (next) governor. If anybody can come out and challenge me, I will resign as governor of Rivers State.”

BESIDES, the House of Assembly, yesterday, screened and confirmed 18 commissioner nominees forwarded by the governor.

The Speaker, Ikuiyi Ibani, after debating on floors of the hallowed chamber, called for a vote, with members unanimously confirming the nominees.
