Emeritus President of Aka Ikenga, Agbalanze Chike Madueke, has decried the penchant of Igbo to run away from the South-East region over rising insecurity, insisting that such is not the solution to the problem.

He stated that Ndigbo must remain at home and join hands to find solutions to the security challenges if development must come to the region.

Madueke, who spoke at Enugu as the special guest of honour at the December 2024 edition of Nkata-Umuibe organised by the Centre of Memories, expressed worry that rather than join hands to fight insecurity, the people were running to other regions thereby opening up its spaces for criminals to operate.

“If we are not careful and continue with the manner we are responding to the insecurity challenge, the Igbo will go into extinction. Let us stop pretending as if we don’t understand what is happening. Nobody will build and develop the region except the Igbo people. But running away to other regions to set up businesses because there is insecurity in Igboland will not develop the region,” he said.

Madueke, who is the founder of an Enugu-based Urban Radio station, challenged the Igbo to invest at home, stressing that they can only contribute to solving the insecurity problem when they are around the region.
