Ihedioha directs renovation of Imo Zoo
After years of inactivity and dilapidation, the Imo State Government has commenced the comprehensive renovation of the state owned Zoo located in Nekede, Owerri West Local Council.
According to a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the governor on Media, Steve Osuji, the governor, Emeka Ihedioha gave order for the renovation after realising the zoo’s potentials, which had been allegedly abandoned by the immediate past administration.
It stated: “It’s the only zoo south of the Niger but it’s in utter dereliction. The erstwhile administration didn’t understand its essence.
“It is among the first places visited by Ihedioha upon resumption of office. The governor, having noticed the burgeoning tourism potentials of Owerri made the zoo revamp a priority. Owerri lacks family resort or Fun Park.”
The directive appointed a director in the Ministry of Agriculture, Mr. Francis Abioye to head the facility and turn the zoo into a profit-making venture.
