Ihedioha orders motorists to stop plying Owerri flyover over structural defects
Worried by the level of structural defects, Governor Emeka Ihedioha has directed motorists to stop plying the Orji-Flyover in Owerri metropolis completed by the immediate past administration of Owelle Rochas Okorocha and inaugurated last month by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.
Ihedioha, who gave the directive evening during on-the-spot visit to the facility, expressed concern that from signs and indications, the flyover has developed serious structural defects capable of putting lives of the users in danger.
He, therefore, directed the state Ministry of Works to close the flyover and all the life-threatening projects executed by the Okorocha administration from the motorists.
The governor, accompanied by his Deputy, Gerald Irona, heads of security agencies and government officials, also urged the state chapter of Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) to carry out integrity test on all the projects executed by the Okorocha administration, following public outcry accusing administration of executing sub-standard.
A concerned citizen, Celestine Ugoanyanwu, told the governor that the immediate past administration did not listen to professional advice given to it to bring the construction of the flyover to standards.
