Following the degrading situation in some areas of Owerri, Imo State Governor Emeka Ihedioha has directed the suspension of all dredging activities within the metropolis.

The governor has also ordered immediate re-opening of Douglas Road, which was closed by immediate past Governor Rochas Okorocha, after relocating the Ekeukwu Owerre Market.

The development had culminated in the killing of a10-year-old boy, Som Tochukwu by suspected security operatives, even as traders strongly opposed the relocation and traded on the road and adjourning streets.

Ihedioha, who gave the directive yesterday, when he visited some areas in the city, as part of activities to mark World Environment Day, also disclosed that the relocation of the market would be revisited after consultations with the people of Owerri. He expressed desire to make life more meaningful for residents of the city and other council areas.
