Imo bar, bench protest against kidnap of lawyer, suspend sitting

Lawyers and judiciary workers in Imo State, yesterday, protested against the abduction of a lawyer in the state, Chima Awurum, demanding that the needful be done to free him from captivity.

They also demanded the arrest of the abductors.

Awurum, The Guardian gathered, was kidnapped last weekend at Mbano–Etiti axis.

Secretary of the Owerri branch of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Chinedu Agu, stated yesterday that their request to suspend sitting was approved by the Acting Chief Judge of the state, Ijeoma Aguguo, while the approval memo was signed by the Chief Registrar, Chinyere Okereke, noting that they complied based on that.

The statement read in part: “The Office of the Chief Registrar, High Court of Imo State, has declared that, in solidarity with the Mbano–Etiti branch of NBA, the high courts and magistrates courts will not sit on Tuesday.”
