Imo governor immortalises Uwajumogu

The College of Education, Ihitte-Uboma in Imo State has been renamed Benjamin Uwajumogu College of Education. Governor Hope Uzodinma made the announcement at the funeral of the late Uwajumogu held at his country home, Umuiyi in Ihitte-Uboma Local Council of the state, yesterday.

Uwajumogu, until his death, represented Imo North at the Senate. He was also former Speaker, Imo State House of Assembly. Uzodinma said the gesture was to immortalise the late senator who, according to him, fought doggedly to shoot his constituency and Imo in general to political limelight. He also eulogised Uwajumogu on his efforts to attract development to his people while describing his death as a great loss to Imo and Nigeria.

President Buhari, represented by the Minister of State for Education, Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba and the Senate President, Ahmed Lawan, led other senators and prominent Nigerians to pay respects to the late senator.

Lawan described the deceased as a peaceful, committed and reliable legislator who catered for his people without any fear or favour. “The National Assembly will continue to protect the interest of the nation,” he said.He urged his family to take solace in the fact that the late senator left behind enduring legacies, but noted that his demise was one of the most shocking news this year.
