Imo inaugurates panel on payment of arrears of N57b pensions to retirees

Imo State Governor, Emeka Ihedioha, has inaugurated a panel to settle the payment of N57 billion worth of pensions of retirees in the state.

Imo State Governor, Emeka Ihedioha, has inaugurated a panel to settle the payment of N57 billion worth of pensions of retirees in the state.

Inaugurating the committee in Owerri yesterday, secretary to the Government of Imo State (SGI), Uche Onyeagucha, urged the committee to exercise their duty to the best of their abilities. Ihedioha condemned the last administration for allegedly not taking the plight of the pensioners serious, urging the committee to come up with the best way to pay all retirees their pensions.

The chairman of the 14 – man committee, Evans Uzokwe, a retired Head of Service in the state, promised to handle the job within the two months given to them, regretting the treatment meted to the retirees by the immediate past administration, wishing it should not repeat itself. Other members of the Committee are Nnaemeka Nnoromele, Secretary, Tim Azubuike, Member, Mike Ndubuaku, (Chairman, Local Government Service Commission and Chairman, Local Government Pensions Board), Member, Chima Nwanna (D-COS), Member, Livy Ashiegbu, Member.

Others are the Permanent Secretary, Office of the HoS, Office of the Accountant General’s Representative, Representative of Nigeria Labour Congress, Representative of the Trade Union Congress, J.O. Eze, F.I. Agba and Okey Ewunonu.
