Imo teenager fakes own abduction, demands N5m ransom from sister

A 19-year-old boy, Obioha Bruno from Amaimo in Ikeduru Local Council of Imo State has been arrested by the police for faking his kidnapping.
Having raised an alarm of his purported kidnap, the suspect, who was paraded at the Command’s headquarters in Owerri, yesterday, according to Imo State Command’s spokesperson, Micheal Abattam, demanded N5 million ransom from his elder sister, (name withheld), a staff of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC).
Abattam said operatives of the command arrested the suspect alongside his gang members, namely: Njoku Kelechi, 22, Opara Godwin, 17, Abasirim Onyedikachi, 21, at the point of collecting the ransom.
He said: “The sister to one of the suspects Vivian Iwuama, a staff of Road Safety Commission reported on 11/06/2022 that her brother, Obioha Mmesoma Burno was kidnapped and that the kidnappers had sent a video of the victim being dehumanized, tied and torture in the hostage camp, thereby demanding a ransom of N5 million.
“The video was sent to the operatives, which looked so disgusting, drawing sympathy, where the alleged victim was seen tied and was screaming for help.
“On receipt of the information and watching the video, operatives of Anti-Kidnapping Unit swung into action, analysed the kidnapping scenario, stormed and arrested the suspects, who conspired among themselves to stage self kidnapping of Bruno.
“Suspects confessed to having gone into the criminality to collect money from the husband of the complainant.”
Speaking to newsmen, the suspect, who said he was an upcoming musician, disclosed that he planned the crime with his friends to raise money to sponsor his album.
He however pleaded on behalf of his friends for forgiveness and pardon from his family and the police, promising that they would turn a new leaf.
