Imo varsity authorities refute allegation of daring Uzodimma

The authorities of the Imo State University, Owerri, have refuted an allegation against the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Uchefula Chukwumaeze, SAN, of not carrying out an order by the governor, Hope Uzodimma.

A recent publication by an online media alleged that the waiver on departmental switch granted to 250 nursing science students of the university by the governor was not obeyed.

But the Public Relations Officer of the institution, Onyekachi Nwaozor, in a statement, dismissed the publication’s headline as ‘misleading’ and the story as “untrue and a falsification of facts.”

“We therefore wish to set the records straight as follows: That these group of people that are taking laws into their own hands thereby disturbing the peaceful atmosphere in the University are some fake Students who are parading themselves as Students of Imo State University, as well as some bonafide Students of the University who transferred themselves to another Department without authorization,” Nwaozor said.

“In obedience to the directive of His Excellency, Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodinma, the Management of Imo State University, set up a Committee to determine the status of those affected by the alleged change of Programme.

“This matter is not limited to Nursing Science alone, as it cuts across all departments of the university. Every other Department in the University affected, including Law, obeyed the directive, except in the Nursing Science Department, where these unruly Students resorted to violence.

“The general public is hereby advised to disregard the misleading publication because those behind it are victims of fraudsters and those who have bluntly refused to adapt to the positive change going on in the University, daily.

“Imo State University, as an institution committed to excellence, cannot bow to such a cheap blackmail.”
